
Among the eleven persons who were awarded Ontario’s Most Prestigious Medal for Good Citizenship for the year 2011, Mr. Khalid Usman is the only asian who got it. Khalid Usman, a Canadian of Pakistani origin has a brilliant record of social work and community services. Originally from Peshawar, he did his B.COM(Hons.) from Quaid-e-Azam College of Commerce, Peshawar University in 1970. Then migrated to Canada and did his C.A. from Toronto in 1975 and then in 2009, was awarded Fellowship (FCA), a great honour of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.
In view of his social services, Government of Pakistan has also announced on August 14, 2011 the Award of “Tamgha-e-Khidmat”. Khalid Usman was the first Pakistani to be elected as Councilor of the Markhan Town, Ontario, for three consecutive terms (total 9 years) where he also chaired Board of Trade, plus Transport, Finance and Administrative Committees.
He was instrumental in raising funds for almost all the local hospitals and many social organizations including Imran Khan’s Cancer Hospital and Shifa Trust Eye Hospital of Pakistan.
Fortunately, famous film star, Dileep Kumar’s niece, Dr. Abida Usman is a proud partner in her husband’s initiatives, and readily volunteers her time to help him with his efforts, and also shows support through outstanding generosity of her own.
