SAND in wheat bags - A mixture to keep the weight of wheat bags.
There were around 5,000 wheat bags of 100-kg each of which 1365 bags were spoiled with sand. The wheat was brought form district Khairpur to Karachi.
Meanwhile, Sindh Minister for Food jam Mehtab Hussain Dahr and Sindh Minister for Anti-Corruption Establishment Manzoor Hussain Wassan had on a tip off raided the godown and inspected the wheat stocks and had found the sand was added to a huge quantity of wheat. ACE Chairman Mukhtar Hussain Soomro, ACE Director Ghulam Hussain Memon and Sindh Secretary for Food Muhammad Naseer Jamali had accompanied the Ministers.
Wassan on the occasion revealed that millions of gunny bags bought for wheat procurement were also missing since 2002 and the matter would also be investigated while there were 25 cases of corruption of Sindh Food Department officers and staffers were also being tried in ACE courts.
